Major Mint keeps a tight hold on his sword for most of the movie - until he's steering the sleigh. Then it mysteriously disappears...
... Until they reach the island, when it reappears again...
... Then he gets it back again after the battle between the Mouse and Nutcracker (apparently too late to actually use it)...
... Only to have it vanish again in the Mouse King's dungeon...
It's actually a good thing it vanished when he was dancing. He probably would have hurt something.
And... it's back again (Captain Candy's sword goes through the same treatment).
Because a vanishing sword isn't enough... he has to have a vanishing knapsack as well!

And Mint HIMSELF appears to pull a vanishing act while Clara is changing into the Sugarplum Princess. When the camera spins around, look carefully; you see Eric, but you don't see Mint or Candy until the castle begins to change.
